Identify Key Features Of Your Hunting AreaThe second key in the location element is identifying the key features of the area you will be hunting. I'm always amazed when I watch BASS Masters, the FLW, or the Pro Walleye Tournament at the pro's ability to consistently catch fish in waters they may have never fished before. In an article written in B.A.S.S. Fishing Techniques, the question was asked, "How do the pros so quickly and effectively find fish in rivers, lakes, and reservoirs they have never fished before?" Here's what they revealed. First, the pros understand that the majority of the fish will be in a small percentage of the water. Second, to uncover the areas that hold the majority of the fish quickly and easily they have learned what the key features in any body of water are that will hold the majority of the fish. The keys used by pro fishermen to quickly and effectively identify key features that hold fish are just as applicable to waterfowl hunting. Every area that attracts waterfowl will have attributes and features that will make one spot more appealing than another does to the ducks and/or the geese using the area. Because we have found that most waterfowl hunters struggle to identify the right spot to hunt here is a list of features that has been very useful to the TakeEm staff throughout the years. This list is not the end-all or be-all list. We highly recommend that you keep a list of key features and attributes that you have identified and add them to the list. Features And Attributes To Identify When Hunting Over Water Once again, these are features and attributes that have helped us more quickly and easily identify areas that attract ducks and geese. "I have been waterfowl hunting since I was 13. It's a sickness, which i'm not trying very hard to cure. I found your site just a month, or so, ago, and am enjoying it very much. I hope you keep up the great articles and videos, and update the site as often as possible. I've read, and re-read every page on here, and like I said, I'm loving what you have here!" "Have to first say that I am amazed by your website. Lots of REAL and PRACTICAL stuff. I watched the videos on painting the drake mallard and it definitely was worth joining!" "The info you guys have built up on here is priceless. I got hooked on ducks and geese two years ago and don't know a whole lot about hunting techniques or strategies. This year I have had limited hunting outings as I'm in the military and been deployed allot, but using some of your suggestions, I have already seen improvements to my kill #'s." |
