Duck And Goose Decoy Combo Spread

Summary: In many locations, duck hunters have an opportunity to not only shoot a limit of ducks but they also have the opportunity to harvest geese. Here's a decoy setup that will give you an equal opportunity to kill ducks as well as geese.

Tips For Setting This Decoy Spread:

  • The pattern of your decoy spread should be in the shape of a U, C or in some situations a J
  • Your goose decoys should make up the far end of the U, C or J pattern
  • Don't set you goose decoys out any further than 25-35 yards from your blind location - experience has shown us that the geese may decoy and try to land at the end of the goose decoys or just outside them
  • More goose decoys are better than fewer goose decoys
  • Concentrate the bulk of your duck decoys in the inside portion of the U, C or J and string out your decoys down the legs no wider than 3 to 4 decoys
  • If using pintail and widgeon decoys set a large percentage of them next to your goose decoys to begin the transition from goose decoys to duck decoys
  • Keep your landing zone open and clear and should be approximately 20-25 yards across or larger depending on the size of flocks you're decoying
  • We prefer our blind to be in a cross wind position for this spread
  • This spread is also a great late season duck decoy spread
  • Please note the decoy spread above is not intended to show exact numbers of decoys or species of decoys to use as these factors depend upon the situation.
