High Visibility Spread Utilizing Goose Decoys

Creating a highly visible decoy spread is an absolute must in heavily hunted areas throughout the country. One of the simplest ways to accomplish this goal is to utilize goose decoys into your duck decoy spread. In addition to adding a higher degree of visibility to your spread, goose decoys also work as great confidence decoys. This is especially true in areas where large concentrations of ducks and geese frequent the same areas.

Tips For Setting This Decoy Spread:

  • Use the specie or species of goose decoys that are most common in your area - don't, for example, use snow goose decoys if snow geese are not present or prevalent in the area
  • Place your goose decoys among your duck decoys - don't set them by themselves
  • If you have more than a dozen goose decoys, you can set them throughout your spread in groups of 2 - 7 decoys
  • Within your landing zone, set the majority of your goose decoys where you want to attract the most attention - e.g. your kill zone
  • Do not set your goose decoys on the far outside edges of your decoy spread - doing so may pull ducks out of your kill zone
  • Please note the decoy diagram presented above shows a modified U or C pattern. Understand that this strategy will work with many of the other decoy patterns that have been provided to you. Simply adapt the keys below and incorporate them into the pattern you'll be using on any given day.
