If you've ever had the opportunity to observe ducks or geese on the water during a calm day you'll notice these things. One of the first things you'll notice is the wake that is created in the water as the ducks or geese are swimming. The second thing you'll notice are the ripples created in the water by ducks or geese while they are loafing in the water. The third thing you'll notice is the large amount of splashing, churning, and thrashing that takes place when ducks or geese are tipping up and down while feeding.
Creating this life-like illusion can become quite challenging when you are hunting over water in one of the following conditions:
Whether we're using spinning wing decoys, quiver magnets, or a jerk string we have observed time and time again ducks that are committed to the decoys will key in on the motion decoys. This is why we always want your motion decoy/s well within shot gun range. For us this means we're going to place our motion decoys in the landing zone and the edges of the landing zone. When cross-winding the ducks we always place our motion decoys on the upwind side of the landing zone. This encourages the ducks to sweep all the way across the decoys so that everybody in the blind has good shooting.
Motion duck decoys can create life-like and realistic appearance to your decoy spread when you're faced with challenging hunting conditions as listed above and can certainly make a difference between a bad day and great day.
